LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge College Kodiaks women’s volleyball team has added a new player from the prairies to its roster.

Middle Trinity Walton is from Warman, Saskatchewan and currently plays for Saskatoon’s Smash Volleyball Club. Following her graduation from Warman High School, she plans to study Criminal Justice at Lethbridge College and will suit up for the Kodiaks.

Head coach of the Lethbridge College team, Anna Schwark said staff “love Trinity’s enthusiasm for the sport.” Schwark added, “She really put a lot of effort into finding a good post-secondary fit for herself, and we saw a lot of maturity in her watching that process.”

The Kodiaks invited the player to tour the school and practice with the team during her recruitment process earlier in the year.

Walton said, “After coming here, I really clicked instantly with all the girls.”

“That was a really big decision-maker for me.”

Walton developed her sports skills in gymnastics, before transitioning her focus to volleyball.

Schwark said that background in gymnastics could be a valuable asset to Walton’s development as a volleyball player. She said, “I think Trinity could be able to progress a bit faster than the average first-year. She hasn’t been playing the game long, but she’s just a sponge ready to learn!”

Last season, the Kodiaks women’s volleyball team finished fourth in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) championships, which was the highest finish in the program’s history.

Schwark said, “Many teams, including us, will look a bit different in personnel this season, but I don’t think that necessarily means any of the competition will get easier, so everybody has to come in willing to work. First-year players need to buy into the culture fast, and we have to get working.”

Walton added that she is looking forward to bringing her high energy and never give up attitude to the court next season.
