LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Friends of the Helen Schuler Nature Centre Society has received a gift from the Lethbridge Garden Project Society (LGPS).

The LGPS has donated $35,000 towards the Nature Centre’s Prairie Living Roof. The donation was made in memory of long-time LGPS members Phil North, Bob Giesbrecht and Jim George.

Craig McMahon, president of the LGPS said in a news release, “Our society is proud to support the Prairie Living Roof at the Helen Schuler Nature Centre to inspire appreciation and understanding of plants through demonstration, education, and research in an engaging outdoor learning environment that preserves our sense of place.”

The Prairie Living Roof is fully accessible at the Helen Schuler Nature Centre and is located on the rooftop of the building. It’s an outdoor classroom space that helps educate visitors on native plants and grasses of the Lethbridge river valley.

The monetary gift from the LGPS will help with ongoing maintenance of the rooftop space.

McMahon noted, “We see a common goal between what our Society’s objective was and that of the Helen Schuler Nature Centre.”

Meanwhile, Coreen Putman, Manager of the Helen Schuler Nature Centre said, “The leadership of the Lethbridge Garden Project Society is appreciated.”

Putman added, “Donations encourage our efforts and help us to do more in the community.”
