LETHBRIDGE, AB – It’s set to be another hot week in Lethbridge, and there’s a ton of events to keep you busy over the next few days.

Environment Week – June 4-10

Environment Lethbridge has several events planned to get community members connected to nature for Environment Week, a national initiative that runs from June 4 to 10, 2023. There’s the plant walk on June 6, the school clean up challenge on June 7, yoga in the park on June 8 and 9, and Nature Play Fest on June 10. Bike to Work Week – June 5 – 9

As part of Environment Week hosted by Environment Lethbridge, residents are encouraged to join the green movement that sees people riding their bikes to work. Commuters are encouraged to share photos on their social media accounts, tag Environment Lethbridge and use the hashtag #biketoworkyql.

Pro-Amateur Comedy Night (Open Mic Comedy) at Good Times Lethbridge Comedy Club – June 7

On Wednesday, June 7, the Good Times Lethbridge Comedy Club will host its Pro-Amateur Night. Professional comics will test out new material, and newer performers can try their hand at stand-up comedy. Those looking to sign up for a guest spot, or grab tickets to the show, can do so online at the Good Times Lethbridge Comedy Club website.

Collect complimentary compost at the ENMAX Centre – June 8

The City of Lethbridge is offering free compost to residents interested in sprucing up their garden. On June 8, people can head out to the CASA parking lot from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., or until supplies last to collect upwards of 40 litres (10 gallons) of compost. People looking to collect complimentary compost are asked to bring shovels, gloves and containers to transport their goods home.

Downtown Queer History Walking Tour – June 8

The Galt Museum & Archives is taking in part in Pride Month celebrations, by hosting a Queer History Walk in Downtown Lethbridge. Join Tess McNaughton as they take people around historic downtown Lethbridge providing residents with a new understanding of history, one that is here and queer. Adults and seniors interested in joining the walk are encouraged to register online at the Galt Museum & Archives website.

Job Fair at Cor Van Raay YMCA – June 8

Teamworks Career Centre, in partnership with the YMCA of Lethbridge, is hosting a community job fair on Thursday, at the Cor Van Raay YMCA (74 Mauretania Road W.) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Over 48 local employers will be on hand for the event. The job fair will also feature many community resource partners willing to help job seekers in their employment journey.

SAAG Summer Market – June 9 & 10

The Southern Alberta Art Gallery (SAAG) will partner with the Downtown BRZ to host a special supper edition of the annual artisan market. Local and regional artists will be in attendance selling their unique, handmade, quality goods. The event runs from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m on June 9 and 10, and admission is free for all. Lighting Up Festival Square – June 9 to 11

Festival Square will celebrate its first birthday this week, and the Downtown BRZ is set to host a party. On June 9, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., the Highway 3 Ale Trail Beer Garden will be open to the public with live music kicking off at 5:00 p.m. until late in the evening. On Saturday, a kid’s carnival with bouncy castles, face painting and games will run from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a magic show starting at 1:00 p.m. On Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., a free pancake breakfast will take place in Festival Square. Lethbridge Farmers’ Market at Lethbridge & District Exhibition – Every Saturday from June 10 to October 14

It’s the first Farmers’ Market of the season in Lethbridge! Head on over to Lethbridge & District Exhibition this weekend to check out the region’s best produce, baked goods, homemade crafts and more. Markets are free to attend and run every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. from June 10 to October 14, 2023. Last year, it’s estimated that nearly 57,000 people attended the market on the exhibition grounds.

Ladies Drift Day at the Rocky Mountain Drift Club – June 10

This one’s for the girls. The Rocky Mountain Drift Club is hosting a women’s-only drifting event in Claresholm for the first time ever. Gals of all skill levels are welcome to try their hand on the track, with instruction available on the day of. While the event is strictly for ladies, everyone is encouraged to come out and cheer them on for free. The event runs from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and more information can be found at the Rocky Mountain Drift Club Facebook page.

National Youth Roller Derby Fundraiser – June 10

This weekend, seven Lethbridge skaters joining the National Roller Derby Team will be fundraising to help send them off to France in July. The team will hold a car wash from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday at 261- 16 Avenue South. Those looking to help pay for flights and other expenses can donate to the athletes during that time and get their car washed.

Nikka Yuko Food Truck Friday – Every Friday

The Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden hosts Food Truck Friday every Friday from May 26 to September 29. Several food truck vendors will be parked outside Nikka Yuko, including Santeria Taco Truck, Ma n Pa’s BBQ, That Hawaiian Burger Truck, Mama Lo’s, Vesano Pizza, Jerry’s Pop Shop, and much more. The trucks will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Fridays.

Yoga and Tai Chi at Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden – Every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday

The Canadian Yoga Institue has begun its Tai Chi and Yoga classes at Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden this month. Flow Yoga will take place every Wednesday starting at 6:00 p.m., while Yoga for Wellness will start at 5:30 p.m. every Thursday. Beginning at 9:00 a.m. every Saturday, people can take part in short-form Yang Style Tai Chi. Drop-in passes can be purchased on the day of the event, or you can register through the Canadian Yoga Institue. More information can be found online.

Alberta Genealogical Society – Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday

The Lethbridge branch of the Alberta Genealogical Society opens its resource centre to the public from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Community members are encouraged to come out and learn more about their history and try to trace their family trees. Check it out at 128 – 909 3 Avenue North in Lethbridge and learn more on the Lethbridge & District Branch Alberta Genealogical Society website.
