Lethbridge Police charge Airdrie man following search at Henderson Lake

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Police in Lethbridge have charged a man in connection with an incident that resulted in a search of Henderson Lake.

On June 2, 2023, just after 7 a.m., members of the Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) responded to a report of an assault along the 600 block of Mayor Magrath Drive South. The victim told police that he was confronted by a male suspect who attacked him with a baton.

The suspect was described as wearing a military-style vest and in possession of a handgun, according to the LPS. Police said he fled the scene prior to the arrival of officers but was found a short time later and ran into Henderson Lake. The LPS said he proceeded to dispose of items in his possession into the lake.

The suspect was taken into custody while members of the Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services Dive Team were called out to search the water. Members recovered a pellet gun, according to the LPS.

Police added that officers also confiscated ammunition and suspected fentanyl during a search of the suspect upon arrest.

Andrew Albert Watson, 36, of Airdrie, is charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a controlled substance, resisting a peace officer, failure to comply with a release order, and two counts of possession of a prohibited firearm. Watson was remanded to appear in court on Monday, June 5, 2023.
