LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge’s 2023 Target Hunger campaign is taking place on Saturday, June 10.

The annual event takes place every June, where volunteers collect donations from local households in specially-marked plastic bags, requesting community members to donate needed non-perishable food items. Both the Lethbridge Food Bank and the Interfaith Food Bank are taking part in the event.

Lethbridge Food Bank Executive Director Mac Nichol said the turnout for volunteers has been great this year.

He explained, “We have about 200 routes in Lethbridge. Of them, about 160 of them were taken, so we only had about 40 or so, a little less than 40 routes left, and then on the day of, we’ll have 30 volunteers at Lethbridge Food Bank and probably about 40 to 50 volunteers at Interfaith Food Bank.”

Nichol said the campaign this year has a goal of donating 60,000 pounds of food. Last year’s campaign had a goal of 50,000 pounds, and Lethbridge and area donated over 60,000, along with financial contributions from the community.

The food banks are looking for non-perishable food items to be donated for the hampers, such as canned soup, vegetables and fruit, and they are also looking for items like juice, pasta and sauces.
