LETHBRIDGE, AB –The City of Lethbridge has announced its plans for Canada Day celebrations.

The northeast end of Henderson Lake Park will begin the festivities at 12:00 p.m., with events such as a food hub with local food trucks, a kids’ zone, live performers and at 11:00 p.m., a fireworks show.

The main stage, sponsored by Pattison Media, will begin at 11:00 a.m. and feature 15 performers. At 4:00 p.m., there will be an opening ceremony with guest speakers.

The kids’ zone is set to boast bouncy castles, face painting, theatre performances and a new youth market.

Sarah Burton, Canada Day Committee Chair, said the new youth market came from a successful test last year, “Last year we kind of did a test market with one youth vendor who was selling items and it was really, really successful, so we decided to invite other like-minded youths anywhere up to 17 and under, they can come between noon and 4:00 and sell their wears.”

Burton also spoke about how the celebration is as much focused on the city itself as it is on celebrating Canada Day.

She explained, “For Canada Day, we actually just view it as a celebration of Lethbridge and the community Lethbridge is. Lethbridge is really diverse. We have many many cultures in Lethbridge and it’s fabulous to see them all come out and be in the same place, and just have a day that we get to celebrate how amazing it is to be in Lethbridge.”

At 9:00 a.m., a toonie breakfast will be put on by the Interfaith Food Bank at Galt Gardens. From 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the Le Baron’s Car Club will host the return of the Show & Shine event for car enthusiasts.
