Six high school graduates receive $5,000 scholarship from University of Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The University of Lethbridge (U of L) has announced the recipients of its $5,000 Chinook Scholarship.

The scholarship is the U of L’s most prestigious high school entrance award, and has been given to students from the communities of Lethbridge, Coaldale, Airdrie, and Cochrane.

This year’s Chinook Scholarship recipients are:

  • Kaytrin Irwin (Lethbridge Collegiate Institute)
  • Madison Tsui (Lethbridge Collegiate Institute)
  • Abigail Giacchetta (Kate Andrews High School, Coaldale)
  • Madison Hansen (Bert Church High School, Airdrie)
  • Rachel Jensen (W.H. Croxford High School, Airdrie)
  • Janelle Saltvold (Cochrane High School, Cochrane)

According to a news release from the U of L, the scholarship is available to those who have “demonstrated superior academic achievement (minimum 85 per cent admission average) and leadership qualities.”

Dr. Erasmus Okine, provost and vice-president academic said, “The commitment these students have shown to their studies, their classmates and their communities throughout their high school careers is impressive. They have shown they are among the brightest young minds in the province, with an aptitude for leadership and service.”

The award recipients were selected by a committee based on a submitted student essay and references on top of their academic scores and leadership experience.
