LETHBRIDGE, AB – A man from Standoff will spend the next several months in jail.

In Lethbridge Provincial Court on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, Tazzmaine Good Dagger, 23, was sentenced.

He was arrested on March 11, 2023, after Coaldale RCMP responded to a report of a man with an axe stealing a sandwich from a nine-year-old girl in Coalhurst. Although Good Dagger did not use the axe, court heard that it was displayed prominently.

The child was not hurt.

Shortly after charges were sworn in, Good Dagger entered guilty pleas to one count of robbery with an offensive weapon and two counts of failure to comply with a release order.

The guilty pleas factored into the judge’s sentencing decision.

Although the crown had suggested a sentence of 18 months in jail, Good Dagger was sentenced to 12 months. With credit for time already served, he will spend another 200 days behind bars.

Following the incarceration period, Good Dagger will be on probation for six months. He also faces a lifetime firearms prohibition.
