Residents advised of temporary closure of Milk River Health Centre Emergency Department

MILK RIVER, AB – The Emergency Department (ED) at the Milk River Health Centre is set to temporarily close next week. The ED will be closed temporarily starting at 8 a.m. on Monday, July 3, 2023.

It will reopen at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, July 4 to provide 24-hour service. Alberta Health Services (AHS) said the temporary closure is due to a lack of physician coverage.

During the closure, nursing staff will stay on site to provide care for long-term care residents.

Patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency. EMS calls will be re-routed to the Raymond Health Centre, which is about 60 kilometres away, or the Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge, roughly 87 kilometres away. Patients seeking care can access emergency services at both the Raymond and Lethbridge facilities.

Residents are also reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7 for non-emergency health-related questions. Individuals requiring non-emergency medical care are encouraged to call their family physician.
