Elizabeth Ann Wolf Child-Hunt was born March 19,1953 to Cecile (Panther Bone) and Albert Wolf Child Sr., and passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 18,2023, surrounded by her sons, at the Chinook Regional Hospital.
Elizabeth was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, auntie and friend to many. Albert and Elizabeth were together for 47 years and married in 1997 (25 years). They lived a very humble life and their caring ways were shown with the many foster children and adopted children they took in as their own. She was well known for her silly sense of humour, her love for playing bingo, talented beading and seamstress. She taught and passed her knowledge and talent down to her youngest son, Calvert, with her beading.
Growing up, Elizabeth was known to be the quiet one of her siblings. She attended school in Drumheller and St. Mary’s Residential School. She enjoyed playing fastball with the T-birds and she always talked about being a goalie, when the mothers played against the children of Calvert’s hockey team. Elizabeth was an antique collector. Her main collection was of old dolls. She worked at the Indian Hospital in Cardston, CP Rail, BTAP (Blood Tribe Agriculture Projects) and the Blood Tribe Forage Plant.
Albert and Elizabeth were the oldest members of the of the Brave Dog Society and spent every summer at the annual Sundance. In 1997, at Kehewin Pow-wow, she won 2nd prize, a trip to Schimitzen Pow-wow in Connecticut, USA. They raised their sons around the pow-wow trail and followed them as Darren and Andy’s singing and Calvert’s dancing, whom they was very proud of. They were very supportive of their sons; Darren with his baseball, Andy with his singing and Calvert with his hockey. She loved her all 12 of her grandbabies and was very happy to have them come to visit her. She had her favourite pets named Larry, Shiner and Jim Jam.
Being the matriarch of the Wolf Child family, she loved to have family gatherings and did her best to keep family together. She had love for every one of her nieces and nephews, many of whom she took as her own children. Albert and Elizabeth were also caring foster parents to many children from Kainai.
Elizabeth is survived by her sons: Darren, Andy, Calvert (Joni), Willy, Clement and Jon; her siblings Bruce (Ann Marie), Alice, John, Alphonse Bird, Harrison Shade, Tom and Rose (Wolf Child) Dumont and Jim Watts;her grandchildren Hilary, Savannah (Koko), Guy, Larissa, Wyatt, Canyon, Calvert Jr., Cyler, Ryan, Kaylie, Ocean and Chloe; traditionally adopted children: Warren Hunt, Gaylene Eagle Speaker, Ashley Cross Child, Jade McHugh, Cecilia Eagle Speaker, Cole Healy, Leanne Wolf Child, Amanda Many Heads, Oscar Brave Rock, Michelle Spear Chief, TJ Wadsworth, Kenny Standing Rock, Helen Many Shots and the Thompson Family from Arizona; as well as her in-laws from the Hunt family and all members of the Brave Dog Society.
Elizabeth battled with many health problems for many years. She fought and remained strong right till the end of her life. The family would like to thank Dr. Wong, Dr. Stewart, the nursing staff of Lethbridge Dialysis clinic, Unit 3B at Chinook Regional Hospital, and St. Michael’s Home Care, Kainai Medical Transportation, Lethbridge Access-a-Ride for their care over the years.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Albert Hunt; parents, Cecile and Albert Wolf Child Sr.; granddaughter, Kira Wolf Child; siblings: Albertine Wolf Child, Rita Many Shots, Albert Wolf Child Jr., Mark Wolf Child, Frank Wolf Child and adopted sons Shawn and Marvin Many Shots.
