Lethbridge City Council discussed potentially moving forward with plans for the fence around the downtown site at Tuesday’s meeting.

The motion, brought forward by councillor John Middleton-Hope and Mayor Blaine Hyggen, would have directed City Administration to look into the cost and availability of erecting an iron fence as a boundary around Galt Gardens.

The motion was ultimately defeated, with councillors Middleton-Hope, Rajko Dodic, Nick Paladino and mayor Hyggen voting in favour of it.

The rally saw many people in attendance outside of City Hall holding signs showing opposition to the proposed fence. The Raging Grannies were also in attendance, performing a song in protest.
