LETHBRIDGE, AB – A sentencing decision has been made for a woman from Lethbridge who faced a weapons-related charge.

In Lethbridge Provincial Court on Friday, August 18, 2023, Gillian Macleod, 36, was granted an absolute discharge on one count of possession of a prohibited weapon.

On December 7, 2022, the RCMP conducted a search of Macleod’s home, hoping to find weapons that had allegedly been stolen out of Fort Macleod by a person who was known to her.

Although officers did not find any weapons at her house, they did locate a taser inside of her purse.

Macleod told court that she never intended to use the taser as an offensive weapon and only had it for personal protection.

She pleaded guilty to the one charge earlier this year and had all other charges against her withdrawn.

Macleod has no prior criminal record and her lawyer spoke at length about her good character.
