Fire Restriction lifted for Lethbridge County

Aug 22, 2023 | 3:13 PM

LETHBRIDGE COUNTY, AB – The fire restriction in Lethbridge County has been lifted.

Fire conditions have been closely monitored by the County’s Fire Services Department, and after periods of precipitation and cooler temperatures in recent days, the restriction was lifted on Tuesday, August 22, 2023.

However, Fire Services Manager Byron Fraser said the restrictions may not be lifted for long.

He explained, “Although we are lifting the Fire Restriction, we want the public to be aware that with higher temperatures forecasted in the coming days, there is a probability that restrictions will need to be reestablished later this week.”

Fraser added, “These higher temperatures can easily reverse any benefits gained from the recent precipitation.”

Fire permits are still required for most burning activities, and permit holders may burn the following:

  • Paper products
  • Untreated wood (wood or wood products that do not contain preservatives)
  • Yard waste (grass/tree clippings, leaves, branches, fallen trees, brush, weeds, etc.)
  • Straw and stubble

A list of items that cannot be burned, as well as the application for a permit, can be found at the County website.
