BROOKS, AB – An incident in Brooks that sent a man to hospital was found to have been the result of an accidental firearm discharge.

At approximately 1:09 a.m. on August 24, 2023, Brooks RCMP responded to a 911 call of a disturbance at a local night club. Police said a man had been shot.

The man is currently in a Calgary hospital, with the RCMP noting he is in stable condition.

The investigation found that the shooting was the result of an accidental discharge of a firearm. The RCMP said that video surveillance showed the victim displaying his firearm to another person, when it discharged, and he shot himself.

No other people were injured in the incident.

The RCMP said the investigation continues and charges are pending.

BROOKS, AB – A shooting in Brooks is under investigation.

On August 24, 2023 at around 1:09 a.m., police responded to a 911 call of a disturbance at a local night club. According to the RCMP, officers attended and were told that a 45-year-old male resident of Brooks had been taken to hospital with a gunshot wound.

Police reported that he suffered significant injury and was flown to a Calgary hospital.

The RCMP investigation is in its early stages, but police said information gathered so far suggests this was an isolated incident and there is no risk to the public.
