University of Lethbridge researchers awarded more than $2.3 million in funding

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Researchers at the University of Lethbridge have earned more than $2.3 million in funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI).

The funding was announced in Edmonton on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 by Minister of Innovation, Science, and Industry François-Philippe Champagne, and Minister of Health Mark Holland.

The funding support is part of a $960-million investment by the federal government in research projects across the country.

Nine University of Lethbridge researchers received NSERC grant money. The projects funded were in the fields of neuroscience, biological sciences, chemistry & biochemistry, and mathematics & computer science.

Dr. Dena McMartin, U of L vice-president of research, said, “The projects our researchers are involved in cover a wide range of topics, all of which are focused on bettering society while providing excellent mentoring and training to undergraduate and graduate students.”

In addition to the grants, Majid Mohajerani and Stacey Wetmore both earned CFI John R. Evans Leaders Fund (JELF) awards.
