Four youths charged in connection with vandalism at Fort Macleod’s Empress Theatre

FORT MACLEOD, AB – Charges have been laid against four youths in connection with an incident at Fort Macleod’s Empress Theatre.

The RCMP said that on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at about 8:30 p.m., police responded to a case of mischief at the venue where a Fort Macleod Pride event was taking place.

The investigation found that four suspects threw fisher and marten lure oil in the building, which the RCMP said caused “a very foul smell”.

The RCMP noted on Friday, September 1 that all four suspects have since been arrested. The suspects cannot be named as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The four have each been charged with one count of mischief under $5,000 and have been released for youth court at the Alberta Court of Justice on December 15, 2023.

CENTENNIAL PARK

The RCMP is still seeking information regarding a second incident on August 26, related to the community’s Pride events.

At approximately 11:38 p.m., the Fort Macleod RCMP was notified of an incident of mischief at Centennial Park. It was reported that five male suspects were burning the Pride flag.
