Report: Lethbridge third most affordable city in Canada for rent

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Renters in Lethbridge might find themselves paying a bit more for housing this year, but the city remains one of the cheapest in the country.

According to the latest National Rent Report from Rentals.ca and Urbanation, it cost an average of $1,181 per month to rent a one-bedroom unit in Lethbridge in August 2023, up eight per cent over the last year.

Homes with two bedrooms rose in price by 12.1 per cent year-over-year to $1,392 per month.

The national averages in August were $1,879 for one bedroom and $2,339 for two bedrooms.

Provincially, renters in Alberta paid $1,483 for a single-bedroom unit and $1,819 for two.

A total of 35 communities across the country were analyzed for the report, including Alberta’s three largest cities. They are listed in descending order in terms of price with the number in brackets representing that city’s place on the national ranking:

• Calgary (24)
  • One bedroom: $1,728, up 21.6 per cent year-over-year
  • Two bedrooms: $2,150, up 17.4 per cent year-over-year
• Edmonton (30)
  • One bedroom: $1,279, up 18 per cent year-over-year
  • Two bedrooms: $1,578, up 13.3 per cent year-over-year
• Lethbridge (33)
  • One bedroom: $1,181, up eight per cent year-over-year
  • Two bedrooms: $1,392, up 12.1 per cent year-over-year

Vancouver was once again the most expensive city in Canada in which to rent. In August, it cost $2,988 per month for a one-bedroom rental while those staying in homes with two bedrooms would pay $3,879 per month.
