LETHBRIDGE, AB – Three Lethbridge Hurricanes are giving back to the community this season.

The team announced on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 that Miguel Marques, Tristen Doyle and Will Sharpe will donate to KidSport Lethbridge and Taber, and the Canadian Cancer Society throughout the 2023-24 Western Hockey League (WHL) season.

The trio will donate $10 for every point they have, with $5 going to each charity.

The initiative was started in the 2015-16 season, when then-Hurricanes captain Tyler Wong began donating. He was joined by Carter Folk, Giorgio Estephan and Ryley Lindgren, and the trio raised nearly $20,000 over two seasons.

Ty Nash then followed suit in the 2021-22 season, donating $10 for every goal he scored.

Marques said, “We are very excited to be able to continue the tradition and legacy of great former Lethbridge Hurricanes, while being able to help support two charities that are very close to us.”

In addition to the contributions from Marques, Doyle and Sharpe, the team also announced they will match the trio’s total donation amount.

Hurricanes General Manager of Business Operations, Terry Huisman said, “We are always so proud of our players who choose to donate their own money to charities in our community during the season.”

He continued, “It is an automatic for the hockey club to be able to match the three’s donation for the great charities of KidSport and the Canadian Cancer Society.”
