Lethbridge Police seize weapons, ammunition during traffic stop

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) has arrested a man, and seized a firearm during a traffic stop.

On September 23, 2023 at approximately 11:30 p.m., Alberta Sheriffs observed a vehicle speeding along Metis Trail near Jerry Potts Boulevard and conducted a traffic stop.

Police said the driver showed signs of impairment and refused to leave the vehicle. LPS was contacted for assistance and confirmed the driver was subject to a lifetime firearms and weapons prohibition.

At the scene, officers saw a rifle case in the car and the driver was arrested. A further search resulted in the seizure of a rifle with an overcapacity magazine, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, a ballistic vest, a baton, handcuffs and a balaclava.

Jamey Kenneth Jensen, 32, of Lethbridge is facing multiple charges, including:

  • Four counts of possession of a prohibited firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Two counts unauthorized possession of a prohibited/restricted weapon
  • Possession of a firearm/weapon obtained by an offence
  • Possession of body armor without a valid permit

Jensen was remanded into custody and scheduled to make his first court appearance on Monday, September 25.
