New justice of the peace appointed in Alberta

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has announced the appointment of a new justice of the peace.

Ambreen Azim will be based in Calgary and will start in the role as of December 4, 2023. This brings the total number of justices of the peace in Alberta to 46.

Justices of the peace oversee matters ranging from provincial offences to criminal law. In Alberta, they sit in provincial offence courts in Lethbridge, Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer, Grande Prairie, and Medicine Hat, as well as hearing offices in both Edmonton and Calgary.

Mickey Amery, Minister of Justice said, “The work justices of the peace do is critical to making sure every Albertan has timely access to the justice system.”

Amery continued, “I would like to congratulate newly appointed justice of the peace Azim and wish her success in her new role.”

Azim attended law school at the University of Southampton in England and completed her Canadian accreditation at the University of Toronto in 2008. Currently, she is a lawyer with KH Dunkley Law Group in Calgary.
