Lethbridge man charged in connection to high-risk incident, domestic assault

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) has apprehended a man following an incident on the north side.

Shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 8, 2023, members of the LPS Tactical Team were called to a home on the 300 block of Lynx Crescent North on a report of a domestic assault.

After police arrived on scene, the victim was able to leave the house but a male suspect barricaded himself inside, reportedly armed with a gun.

Following a standoff with police that lasted approximately three hours, the man exited the home and was taken into custody. A loaded rifle was allegedly seized.

A 50-year-old Lethbridge man is charged with breaching a protection order, assault with a weapon, assault, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, uttering threats, use of a firearm while committing an offence, knowingly possession an unauthorized firearm, careless use/storage of a firearm, housebreak and commit assault with a weapon.

He remains in custody.

As this was a matter that allegedly involved domestic violence, LPS said they cannot release the name of the suspect in order to protect the identity of the victim.
