Contractor killed at water storage pit in Northern Alberta
Calgary, AB–A contractor working at a water storage pit operated by Calgary based Birchcliff Energy has been killed on the job.
The fatality happened south of Baytree, Alberta, about 100 kilometers west of Grande Prairie Tuesday evening. Emergency crews responded to the scene. Circumstances surrounding the death are still being investigated but it appears the contractor may have drowned.
“On behalf of all of us at Birchcliff, I want to extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the family, friends and co-workers of our deceased colleague. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time. We have commenced an investigation into the cause of this tragic accident,” said Jeff Tonken, Birchcliff’s Chief Executive Officer.
Tonken adds that “Birchcliff’s number one priority is the health, safety, and well-being of its people. The company says it will ensure those impacted by the incident will have the support they need, including access to grief counselling services.
