LETHBRIDGE, AB – The sale of Jumbo Ears has lead to a jumbo donation.

The Lethbridge & District Exhibition has announced a donation of $18,590.36 to the Lethbridge & District International Baseball Foundation (LDIBF).

The money came from the sales of the doughy delights at this year’s Whoop-Up Days festival.

CEO Mike Warkentin said he is proud to support the organization.

“The volunteers from the Lethbridge & District International Baseball Foundation were among the hardest workers at Whoop-Up Days over the five days of the fair,” said Warkentin. “With record crowds, the line to get Jumbo Ears was never-ending, but the volunteers just kept going and provided visitors with our signature tasty treat. We’re thrilled to present them with this well-earned donation and thank them for their contributions to Whoop-Up Days.”

The LDIBF was founded in 2021, bringing Lethbridge’s best high school baseball players together to form the Lethbridge Longhorns. The team plays at Spitz Stadium and is meant to showcase players who are destined to play collegiate ball in Canada and the United States.

Longhorns head coach Chance Wheatley said he and his crew had a great time selling Jumbo Ears.

“This a great fundraiser for us as it goes a long way in helping us keep fees affordable. We want to thank everyone for supporting us as well as everyone’s kind words during the event,” said Wheatley.

The sale of Jumbo Ears was part of a charitable giving campaign at Whoop-Up Days. A total of $68,000 was raised between the Lethbridge & District Exhibition 50/50 Lottery and pancake breakfasts, BBQs and other events.

The 2023 Whoop-Up Days festival saw a record attendance of 77,263.
