LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes took down the Red Deer Rebels 4-1 on home ice on Friday, October 20, 2023.

The Hurricanes came into the game off a 3-2 overtime win over the Calgary Hitmen on Wednesday, October 18.

In the first period, the Rebels struck early with a powerplay goal by Kalan Lind following a double minor penalty by Will Sharpe. However, that would prove to be the only mark on the scoresheet for the Rebels.

Later in the first period, the Hurricanes tied it up on Chase Pauls’ second goal of the season, assisted by Miguel Marques and Trae Wilke.

The second period went by with no score, and the Hurricanes killed off two minor penalties.

The game remained tied for the majority of the third period, until Wilke scored on the powerplay to bring the score to 2-1 at the 14:32 mark. The goal was assisted by Leo Braillard, his first of two assists in his first game with the Hurricanes, as well as Blake Swetlikoff.

Just under three minutes later, Brayden Edwards added an insurance goal from Braillard and Marques on the empty net. He then followed that up with his second goal of the game, and sixth of the season, on the powerplay less than a minute later.

Harrison Meneghin was named the game’s first star for his 24-save performance. Braillard and Edwards were named the second and third stars, respectively, for putting up two points each.

With the win, the Hurricanes improved to a 7-4-1 record, which ties them for first in the Central Division with the Medicine Hat Tigers.

Lethbridge will look to extend their winning streak to three games when they face the Hitmen in Calgary on Sunday, October 22.
