LETHBRIDGE, AB – Two Lethbridge Hurricanes have been named to the 2023 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge roster.

The tournament sees U-17 hockey players competing against other nations for gold each year. Canada is sending two teams to the tournament this year, Canada Red and Canada White.

Goaltender Koen Cleaver has been chosen as a goaltender for Canada White for the 2023 tournament. Cleaver is currently playing for the Pacific Coast Academy U18 Prep team, while under contract with the Hurricanes. He excelled for the U17 Prep team last season, putting up a .940 save percentage in 23 games.

Joining Cleaver on Canada White is Hurricanes defenceman Will Sharpe. Sharpe is in his first full season with the Hurricanes after being drafted 11th overall in the 2022 WHL Draft. In 12 games with the Hurricanes this season, Sharpe has two points from the blueline.

In addition to the two players, the Hurricanes will be represented at the tournament by assistant coach Matt Anholt, who is the second Hurricanes coach in as many years to coach at the tournament. Anholt will serve as the assistant coach for Canada Red.
