LETHBRIDGE, AB – The City of Lethbridge is tackling winter weather and has begun snow removal.

In response to the snowfall seen overnight and throughout the morning of Tuesday, October 24, 2023, the City is following a priority road system when it comes to snow removal on the roads.

Crews are now working on plowing priority one roads in the city. Those include Whoop-Up Drive, Mayor Magrath Drive, Scenic Drive and University Drive.

Transportation Operations Manager, Juliane Ruck said, “We have crews out there last night [October 23] and this morning. Right now we have six plows out clearing the roads, sanding and salting according to our priority system.”

Following that, crews will move onto plowing priority two and three roads. A map of the snow routes that includes the priorities can be found at the City of Lethbridge website.

The City is also encouraging residents to make sure their vehicles are ready to handle the snow in order to keep the roads safe.

Ruck said, “We are asking residents to really keep their distance when our equipment is operating. Five car lengths is a good way to measure it.”

Ruck added that residents should follow Alberta Motor Association guidelines with their vehicles, and should keep warm clothes inside in case of a car breakdown.
