LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge College Kodiaks women’s soccer team has been rewarded for their excellent season with multiple awards.

The Kodiaks finished the 2023 season with an 11-1 record, the best record since the team’s inaugural season in 1994. In the 12-game regular season, the team scored 55 goals and only allowed five.

As a result of the season, four Kodiaks were named to the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) All-Conference team, voted on by the conference’s head coaches:

  • Kenley Matishak (Wing)
  • Nikki Stahl (Midfield)
  • Raeleen Vanden Dungen (Striker)
  • Shelby Bach (Midfield/Forward)

In addition to the All-Conference team selections, Kodiaks’ striker Kyra Piekema was named the ACAC South Division Rookie of the Year. Piekema finished fifth in the ACAC in goals with 11 on the season, and tied for sixth in points with 25.

Kodiaks’ head coach Sean Carey was named the ACAC Women’s Soccer South Division Coach of the Year. This is the third time that Carey, who coaches both the men’s and women’s soccer teams, has earned the award in his seven years coaching both teams.

The honourees will be recognized during the 2023 ACAC Women’s Soccer Championship in Edmonton, which begins on Thursday, October 26 and runs until Saturday, October 28.

The Kodiaks have an automatic bye into the semi-final round due to their first-place finish. They will play at 12:30 p.m. on Friday against the winner of the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens and Keyano College Huskies.
