UPDATE – November 3, 2023

MILK RIVER, AB – Alberta Health Services (AHS) has confirmed that the Emergency Department (ED) at the Milk River Health Centre has re-opened, as of 8 a.m. on Friday, November 3, 2023.

Physician coverage has been secured, ending a closure that started on Tuesday, August 31.

In a statement, AHS said, “We are thankful for the support of surrounding healthcare centres and medical staff and would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding.”

MILK RIVER, AB – The Emergency Department (ED) at the Milk River Health Centre is closed until further notice due to a lack pf physician coverage.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) issued a notice shortly before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, stating that the ED would be closed temporarily until 8 a.m. on Wednesday, November 1.

However, just after 9 a.m. on November 1, AHS updated the advisory to state that the ED will instead stay closed until further notice.

During the temporary closure, nursing staff will remain on-site to provide care for long-term care residents. Patients are advised to call 911 if they have a medical emergency, and EMS calls will be re-routed to the Raymond Health Centre or Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge.

Patients seeking care can access emergency services at both facilities listed above.

Residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811 if they have non-emergency health-related questions. Health Link is a service that is available 24-hours a day, seven days a week. Individuals who require non-emergency medical care can also call their family physician.
