‘Stockings of Hope’ campaign helping women in need this holiday season

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The YWCA of Lethbridge is once again hosting its Stockings of Hope holiday campaign.

The initiative aims to help women in need, and their families, experience the joy of the Christmas season. Officials noted that these women and children are either currently utilizing the services of the YWCA or have used them within the past year.

Community members can select a stocking online through the YWCA website. Each stocking includes a wish-list for a particular woman, and her children if she has them, that includes three needs and one want. The YWCA said it prioritizes all recipients based on individual need.

Gifts added to stockings must be non-violent in nature (no toy knives, toy guns, etc.) and gifts must be delivered unwrapped to 604 8 Street South during regular business hours (Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) or from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 7 or Thursday, December 14, 2023.

Participants are asked to mark each bag or item with the stocking number they have selected so YWCA team members can ensure the gifts are distributed to the correct family.

The campaign is ongoing until December 18. In 2022, Stockings of Hope helped over 70 individuals.

More details are available at the YWCA website.
