LETHBRIDGE, AB – The City of Lethbridge is looking for youth groups to volunteer for a Christmas campaign.

The Waste Utility & Environment Department is offering the Christmas Tree Recycling Program again for 2023. In the program, trees are picked up at each participating household and chipped into wood chips that are used in parks around Lethbridge.

For 2023, the City is opening up the fundraising opportunity to youth groups in the community, and in return, the group will receive $10,000 for the city-wide collection program. Christmas trees are placed out by residents and businesses in their waste collection area to be picked up. Participating groups in the program then have a one day event to pick up the tree and drop them in specified sites around the city.

The collection date will be on January 13, 2024.

The following Saturday is the collection date for missed trees.

The selection process for the youth groups is as follows:

  1. Submit a description of your group’s interest to participate, including a summary of available resources to deliver the program.
  2. City of Lethbridge staff will evaluate the suitability of each group to deliver the program and select a group based on their qualifications.
  3. City of Lethbridge will notify the groups.

Smaller groups are encouraged to organize themselves under one authority with a single submission in an effort to include various sizes of volunteer youth groups.

Submissions must be in by December 1. More information about participating is at the City of Lethbridge website.
