LETHBRIDGE, AB – Competition at a national curling event is underway and a local team is among the top-ranked groups.

The Lethbridge Curling Club said Team Dupont is representing Team AB at the 2023 Everest Canadian Curling Club Championship (CCCC).

The event sees the country’s best 28 teams compete with all provinces and territories represented.

Nanette Dupont, skip for Team Dupont, said it is not their first time at the tournament, but it feels amazing every time to take part in it.

“We are thrilled to be representing the Province of Alberta, and the Lethbridge Curling Club, in the National Championship for the fourth time. I am proud of the team. It takes dedication and a lot of work to compete at this level, and to do it a fourth time is a great accomplishment,” said Dupont.

The CCCC kicked off of November 19, 2023, in Winnipeg, MB. The Alberta squad is currently in second place in the Pool B rankings with five wins and one loss.

Lethbridge Curling Club General Manager and 2023 Team Alberta Coach Kirk Mearns said the level of skill at the upcoming championships is very high.

“We know that we have some of the best curling teams in the province playing out of the Lethbridge Curling Club and Nanette and Team Dupont have competed at elite levels for years,” said Mearns. “We are proud to see them again represent our province in the Canadian Championships. I am even more proud to be their coach this year.”

Team Dupont won a bronze medal at the 2015 CCCC, silver in 2017, and gold in 2019. Teams can only compete every other year.

They were also named the Team of the Year by Curling Alberta in 2020 and won the 2023 Alberta Club Championship – Women.

Saturday, November 25 is the final day of competition. The games can be viewed on the Curling Canada website and on TSN+.
