Lethbridge wrestlers impress at Cardston Cougar Invitational

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Wrestlers from Lethbridge attended the Cardston Cougar Invitational last weekend, and came back with some impressive hardware.

The event, which took place on the December 1-3 weekend, was a showcase of wrestling talent across Southern Alberta, divided into three divisions: Kids, Junior High and Senior High.

Multiple members of the Lethbridge Amateur Wrestling Association (LAWA) attended the events, with many bringing home medals and placings in the competition.

The results for the Lethbridge wrestlers were as follows:

  • Thomas Ellis-Toddington 68kg Senior High – Gold
  • Max Brewerton 74kg Senior High – Gold
  • Reese Ferguson 55kg Senior High – Gold
  • Emmy Selk 68kg Senior High – Gold
  • Zander Sirias 65kg Senior High – Gold
  • Payton Shields 62kg Senior High – Silver
  • Omni Lowry, 68kg Senior High – Silver
  • Jasper Kornelson, 36kg Kids – Silver
  • Roc Brewerton, 43kg Kids – Silver
  • Reid Ellis-Toddington, 39kg Junior High – Silver
  • Grady Steed, 54kg Senior High – Silver
  • Colby Seely, 50kg Junior High – Bronze
  • Kimberly Maine, 62kg Senior High – Bronze
  • Abiageal Hyland, 68kg Senior High – Bronze
  • Kayden Mellafont, 65kg Senior High – Bronze
  • Frankie Saragaco, 80kg Senior High – Bronze
  • Torsten Bergen, 98kg Senior High – Bronze
  • Christien Lowry, 68kg Senior High – Bronze
  • Ozzie Jahn, 54kg Senior High – 4th

Program Coordinator Shawn Daye-Finley said, “The Cardston Invitational is the first tournament of our wrestling season. We put out some good standings and showed where we need to put in more work. Some of our new athletes had their very first matches and did really well. As a team we will focus our efforts to improve on this great start.”

The tournament had over 150 wrestlers competing.
