LETHBRIDGE, AB – A 47-year-old man has been charged by the Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) in connection with an alleged sexual assault.

On December 9, 2023, the LPS responded to a report of an assault after a 39-year-old woman approached a city resident and asked for help. The victim told police that she had been sexually assaulted by a man inside a trailer parked along the 3700 block of Mayor Magrath Drive South.

The woman alleged that the same man had previously assaulted her by causing burn injuries. The LPS said the victim and suspect, both of no fixed address, are acquainted but not well known to each other.

The LPS found the suspect and truck and trailer still parked in the reported lot. The man was subsequently arrested without incident. A second woman was found inside the truck, according to police, but the LPS did not report any harm regarding the second woman.

Malek Fares has been charged with sexual assault, assault with a weapon, and assault. He has been released from custody with conditions of no contact with the victim and second woman. Fares is prohibited from attending the parking lot along the 3700 block of Mayor Magrath Drive South and is scheduled to be in court on January 16, 2024.
