Lethbridge residents encouraged to prepay property taxes for 2024

Dec 13, 2023 | 3:05 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Property owners in Lethbridge can make prepayments towards their 2024 property taxes in January and February. The City of Lethbridge said this will result in a discount when the 2024 tax bills are issued next May.

The discount will be equivalent to earning interest at two percent per year from the date of the payment starting in 2024 to June, 2024. Officials noted that prepayment amounts cannot surpass the total property tax bill for the preceding year.

Property owners who have signed up to the Tax Installment Prepayment Plan (TIPP) program already get a monthly discount on their credit balance.

Payments can be made online, at a resident’s financial institution, in-person at Lethbridge City Hall, by mail or by using the secured drop box at City Hall. Credit cards are not accepted.

CITY HALL CLOSURE

Residents are advised that City Hall will be closed from December 25, 2023 to January 1, 2024. The facility will re-open on January 2.

Payments made online, at a bank, or sent in the mail will be honoured as of the online payment date and the stamp date, according to officials.

The City of Lethbridge added that the earlier prepayments are received, the greater the credit applied to the property owner’s 2024 tax account. Enrollment into the monthly TIPP is still open as well.

More information about property taxes is available at the City of Lethbridge website.
