Hurricanes double up Broncos 6-3 for third straight win
LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes kicked off 2024 with a 6-3 win over the Swift Current Broncos on Wednesday, January 3.
The Hurricanes headed into the matchup fresh of back-to-back victories over the Red Deer Rebels and the Medicine Hat Tigers. The Hurricanes had also played the Broncos in their first game back from the break, but fell 7-6 in overtime.
The first period of the game provided nothing on the scoresheet, with Swift Current having the 13-10 advantage in shots. In the second period, the Broncos struck first six minutes in with a goal by Clarke Caswell.
The Hurricanes responded with their own tally at the 10:18 mark with Tyson Zimmer’s 11th goal of the year and second of two goals on the night. Carter Dereniwsky and Trae Wilke added assists on the goal. The Broncos retook the lead just over five minutes later to end the second period at a 2-1 score.
