Coaldale man charged after shooting himself in the foot

COALDALE, AB – A Coaldale man has been arrested after a self-inflicted gunshot.

On January 7, 2024, Coaldale RCMP were alerted to a report of shots fired at a residence in town. An investigation revealed that a man was walking around the residence with a shotgun when the gun accidentally discharged and hit his foot.

The man was brought to hospital by EMS.

Following the incident, 41-year-old Scott Eugene Conine was charged with the following:

  • Breach of conditions
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Three counts of careless use of a firearm
  • Six counts of possessing a firearm contrary to order

Conine was remanded in custody and will appear in provincial court in Lethbridge on January 10.
