With deep sadness but gratitude for a life well lived, the family of JOE DRENT wishes to announce that he has passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024, into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the age of 87 years.
Joe was born in Holland in 1936 and immigrated to Canada when he was a young man, settling in the Taber area. He met and married his wife Grace in 1958. After moving around from west to eastern Canada, they settled in Lethbridge to raise their family. Joe was employed with the Alberta Government until his retirement. Dad took meticulous care and pride in their yard, tending with love to his many plants and flowers. He loved sitting on their deck, enjoying a coffee and a piece of mom’s cake overseeing their yard. Dad and Mom loved camping and took their motorhome to Ontario four times to explore Canada, and camping at Christina Lake in BC for many years. He also had the best time going fishing with his son, sons-in-law and friends to the BC coast, going deep sea fishing.
Besides, his loving wife Grace, Joe leaves his three children: daughter JoAnne Thompson (Duane) and their daughters: Sarah Rasmussen (Glen) and their children: Khloe and Jack. Lindsay Wormley and her children: Ethan and Liam. Brittany Ackroyd (Edgar) and her children, Grace, Brooke, Aiden, Rosalie; daughter Debbie Oxley (Randy) and their children Lacey Slomp (Chris) and their children, Bennett and Harper. Logan Oxley (Marie) and their son, Owen. All of Lethbridge, and his son, Steve Drent (Lisa) from Saskatoon.
Dad loved seeing his great-grandkids running around at family events; he loved every minute of the fun. Our family would like to thank Dad and Mom’s neighbour Ed for watching over them and being a helping hand over the last few years. Also, heartfelt appreciation to the doctors and nursing staff at the Chinook Regional Hospital – Fifth Floor A ward for the kind and wonderful care they provided to our dad. Rest easy Dad we will love and miss you forever!
As per Joe’s wishes, a private family service was held.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to Lethbridge Humane Society (lethbridgehumanesociety.com) or Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation (crhfoundation.ca) is appreciated.
