Piikani Nation RCMP arrest man in drug trafficking investigation

PIIKANI NATION, AB – A man is facing charges following an investigation into drug trafficking on the Piikani Nation.

On February 1, 2024, Piikani Nation RCMP received a report of a suspected drug transaction happening behind a local convenience store. Police arrived on scene, located and arrested two male suspects.

In a search incidental to the arrest, police seized Percocet pills, Canadian currency, a scale and three throwing knives.

RCMP continued their investigation, and the following day, executed a search warrant at a residence in the Townsite of Brocket. In the search, police say they seized the following:

  • 2.23 grams of purple, yellow and orange suspected Fentanyl
  • 0.54 grams of suspect Crystal Methamphetamine
  • Multiple scales, tin foil
  • A pellet gun
  • Several edged weapons including axes, machetes and knifes

Jonah Shining Double, 41, a of the Piikani Nation, was charged with the following offences:

  • Trafficking a controlled substance – fentanyl
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – fentanyl
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – crystal methamphetamine
  • Possession of proceeds of crime
  • Possession of Items used to traffic in a controlled substance
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose x 3
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • Possession of a controlled substance

Shining Double was remanded into police custody following a Judicial Interim Release Hearing. He will appear in Lethbridge court on Monday, February 5.
