Premier Smith to promote Alberta energy in Washington

Feb 6, 2024 | 12:15 PM

Alberta’s “diverse energy resources” will be getting promoted in Washington D.C over the next couple of days, as Premier Danielle Smith takes her first trip to America’s capital.

Starting on Wednesday, February 7, Smith will be meeting with congress members, industry leaders and think-tanks, to highlight “Alberta’s dynamic mix of traditional and emerging clean energy resources.”

Smith added that she will also be promoting our province’s influence on developing decarbonization technologies, such as carbon capture, utilization and storage, methane, geothermal and biofuels.

“I am looking forward to sharing how our province strives to be the most credible, responsible supplier of energy in a decarbonizing world, and the successes we have achieved as we grow our economy while reducing emissions.”

Currently, the U.S. is Alberta’s largest trading partner, with exports to the U.S. totalling $141.3 billion in 2022.

“Alberta is and has always been, a friend to the United States. We share a common mission to ensure North American energy security and a reliable energy grid.” Smith said in the same release.

Six staff members are set to join Premier Smith on the trip, with all the mission expenses being shared online.
