#TealUp this April for Month of the Military Child

Lethbridge City Hall, Red Deer City Hall and the Calgary Tower are among the landmarks which will light up in teal the evening of April 28 in support of the Month of the Military Child.

The observance has come together locally thanks to work by the Calgary Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC), which is joining communities across the country to honour the strength and resiliency of military children.

The centre says military children face unique challenges throughout deployments, such as absences, relocations and frequent change. Yet, they still demonstrate remarkable courage and adaptability, among other things.

“We are proud to stand alongside military families and recognize the resilience of their children during the Month of the Military Child,” said Barbara Pohl, Executive Director of Calgary MFRC.

“Wearing teal and sharing images of local landmarks illuminated in teal not only honours these young heroes but also amplifies the importance of recognizing and thanking military personnel, and their families, in our communities.”

After landmarks go teal, Canadians are encouraged to wear teal for Teal Up Day, on April 29.

Teal was chosen to represent Canadian Military Children because it incorporates all branches of the Military: Blue for Air Force, Green for Army, and Blue/White for Navy.

If sharing pictures of landmarks or yourself on social media, use the hashtag #TealUp to show solidarity with military families. More information about Calgary MFRC and Month of the Military Child events is available online.
