Watermain replacement project along 11 Street South to start next week

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Residents and businesses along 11 Street South will see an improvement to their water service infrastructure this summer.

The City of Lethbridge is replacing the watermain along 11 Street South between 3 Avenue and 6 Avenue South. The work will start on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 and is expected to be completed by the end of September.

Officials say the watermain infrastructure in that area is over 85 years old and the work is needed to ensure reliable service for businesses and residents. Without the upgrade, the City says infrastructure is likely to fail unexpectedly and will require more time, resources and dollars to fix on an emergency basis.

Parking access and brief interruptions to the water service are expected during the project. The City and the project contractor are working with residents and businesses to find convenient opportunities to switch their water services over to the new watermain.
