Prepare to get your Property Tax Notice

May 27, 2024 | 3:15 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – It’s property tax season, as the City of Lethbridge says notices will be mailed out starting Wednesday, May 29, 2024.

Taxes are due by June 28, and a seven per cent penalty will be applied to all unpaid 2024 balances as of June 29. Late payment penalties will not be waived for those who did not receive their notice, according to the City.

If property owners have yet to receive their notice by June 5, they can use the MyCity feature at the City of Lethbridge website to register their property using their roll number and access code provided on the Property Assessment Notice sent on January 3, 2024.

Once their property is registered, a copy of an owner’s notice can be reprinted.

Alternatively, individuals can contact 311 (or 403-320-3111 if they are outside of Lethbridge), or email tax@lethbridge.ca for help. For anyone who has recently purchased or acquired property in the city, and has not received a notice, proof of ownership is required when contacting 311 or visiting City Hall for a copy.

Officials say there are different ways to pay property taxes:

  • In-person using cash, cheques and debit cards on the main floor of City Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Credit cards are not accepted at City Hall.
  • Directly at a bank and the City will accept the teller stamp date as the date of payment received.
  • Online or through telephone banking using the 13-digit roll number found in the top right of the tax notice. Officials ask that owners select ‘Lethbridge (City of) Taxes’ when paying with this method.
  • By cheque or money order, which can be mailed or dropped off at City Hall.
  • Online with a credit card through lethbridge.ca/pay. For a fee, property and DBIA taxes can be paid using MasterCard or VISA. Property owners are advised to allow one to two business days for processing.

The City asks property owners to not send cash by mail and note that there is a secure mailbox at the front doors of City Hall, as well as a drive-through drop box in the traffic circle behind the building where cash can be deposited.

Property owners can also opt for the monthly Tax Instalment Prepayment Plan (TIPP), which offers a two per cent monthly discount on the credit balance. Enrollment for the 2025 property taxes is available for individuals whose 2024 taxes are paid in full.

Property owners are advised to sign up for TIPP before July 22 to begin at the start of the program’s cycle.

More details about TIPP are available here, and more information on taxes in Lethbridge are available at the City website.
