LETHBRIDGE, AB – The City of Lethbridge Water and Wastewater team is performing ‘smoke’ testing in the 200 Block of Mayor Magrath Drive North.

The City says the tests are being done in order to determine the source of a foul odour reported by residents of the area. The method is not using actual smoke, but a non-toxic, odourless and chemical that looks similar to what is seen at a rock concert’s pyrotechnics.

The chemical will be pumped into the sewer system in the area, and where the ‘smoke’ emerges will show how sewer gases are travelling underground in the neighbourhood.

During the testing, residents may see the ‘smoke’ coming out of the manholes in the area, and crews will be in the neighborhood monitoring.
