LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) apprehended three impaired drivers over the May 31 to June 2, 2024 weekend.

The arrests came as part of a targeted traffic enforcement project in collaboration with Alberta Sheriffs and RCMP, which will continue throughout the summer.

Police issued one 24-hour driving suspension for drug-impaired driving and imposed Immediate Roadside Sanctions for three drivers found to have blood alcohol levels over .05, which resulted in three-day seizures of their licenses and vehicles, and a fine. 52 tickets were also issued over that period.

The initiative aims to make roads in the area safer by targeting speeding, excessive vehicle noise, racing and other illegal behaviours in areas throughout the city where members of the public have reported concerns. LPS held similar initiatives in 2022 and 2023.

LPS has received hundreds of complaints in the area of Mayor Magrath Drive and the Sherring Industrial Park since 2021. Police say while the incidents are not exclusive to the area, a vast majority take place there.

Members of the Traffic Response Unit will provide a highly visible police presence during these targeted projects throughout 2024.
