LETHBRIDGE, AB – It may not result in more classrooms, but the University of Lethbridge is looking to grow.

The University of Lethbridge Business Corporation (ULBC) has detailed its early planning efforts for future residential and business developments.

The ULBC owns the “South Campus Lands,” a 100-acre property between the school’s Community Sports Stadium and the Riverstone subdivision on the west side.

They plan to use the currently-vacant lot for residential properties of various densities, commercial spaces, and a park.

The business group says it is a “once in a generation opportunity” to build a “people-centered community that contributes to the vitality of the neighbourhoods and the City of Lethbridge.”

The initial vision was presented at an open house this week.

Draft designs will be created over the next two months and will be presented at a second open house in September.

The first phase of development is anticipated to begin sometime in 2025 and it could take up to 20 years to fully complete it.
