9/11 Memorial Stair Climb to take place in Lethbridge for 2024

Aug 16, 2024 | 12:01 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is back for 2024 with the Melcor Centre in Lethbridge hosting the fundraiser event on September 22 at 10 a.m.

The Stair Climb consists of firefighters trying to complete the ascent and descent of 110 stories, mimicking what the firefighters were accomplishing at the World Trade Center to save people from the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks.

The event is a very physically demanding activity that is meant to honour those in the line of duty who never got to return home that day.

An avid participant of 10 years in a row, Carl Mix, talked about his reasoning for doing it for so many years. “We are honouring the 9/11 memorial and honouring those who made the ultimate sacrifice and trying to raise money for some good projects within the community.”

Mix states, “It means a lot to me with our job, our job is to provide for the community. Whether we’re on or off the job, this gives us a good outlet to do that and I’ve done this event with my daughter for over ten years so it’s kind of a nice event to do with her.”
