Colin’s last breath was taken in his family home, with family by his side, at the age of 76 years.
Colin was born in Buxton England, and moved to Canada at the age of six, where they settled into southern Alberta. He married his wife Janet in 1971 and over the past 53 years, they made Calgary, Bragg Creek and Barons home. Colin enjoyed a successful 35 year career with Sproule & Associates as an engineering technician and was proud of his retirement at age 54. His friendly greeting response then transitioned to “I’m ok for an old fella”.
Through the years, Colin enjoyed gardening and music and to the dismay his wife, the daily Fox News. He was an avid collector of things and maybe a western movie extraordinaire. Christmas wasn’t Christmas without a real tree and Colin would light up just as bright during the festive season that brought friends and family together. A gracious host, you would be lucky to have but was known to say “I’m going to bed, lock the door when you’re done”.
Colin’s many adventures included his tipi parties in the woods, riding the imaginary school bus with the grandkids and surely thousands of miles with his wheel barrel around the barn. He may have had a peculiar way of doing things and his true patch of heaven was his hobby farm near Barons. Here he enjoyed tending to the land and growing his ever-loving bond for animals of almost any type. As some would say, he’s married to his wife first and animals second. It was in the community of Barons he enjoyed his time supporting the curling club and Royal Canadian Legion.
Colin was surprisingly witty and his joyful smile will be dearly missed by his wife Janet, children: Jason (Leslie) Risk, and Amy (Garth) Tansy; grandchildren: Connor, Kayleigh, Ada and Alex; brother, Ian (Marge) Risk; and the large in-law Minor clan, as well as numerous other family and close friends. Colin was surely greeted at the gate by his four-legged friends: Muggin, Winnie, Sammy, Maggie and Oscar. Yet to feed are his donkeys, Max & Joey and Penelope the Goat.
At this time, we wish to extend many thanks to the Kehoe Lake Colony in all the support given to Colin’s endeavors over the years and good friends Dave & Mary Bishop.
As per Colin’s wishes, a Graveside service will be held at ELINOR CEMETERY, Barons, AB, on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at 11:00 A.M., followed by a Wake at the Risk Farm.
“Everything will be perfectly adequate” A proud man many will greatly miss. In Colin’s words, “Farewell, I Love you Most”.
