LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes have a new captain.

On Friday, August 30, 2024, the team announced that defenceman Noah Chadwick will be its new captain, beginning in the 2024-25 season..

Chadwick takes over the role from Joe Arntsen, who finished his five-year stint with the Hurricanes last season. Chadwick served as an assistant captain last year.

In three seasons since being selected in the 2020 Western Hockey League Prospects Draft, the 6’4 rearguard has solidified himself as an essential piece of the Hurricanes blueline.

Chadwick was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the sixth round of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, and had a big breakout season with the Hurricanes in 2023-24, putting up 12 goals and 56 points in 66 games en route to being named a second-team all-star in the WHL’s Central Division.

Chadwick said, “I’m super honoured and it’s a privilege to be named the captain of the Hurricanes and it’s something that I’m not going to take lightly.”

He added, “To be able to take over from a great captain in Joe [Arntsen] is an honour. I bring a lot of different aspects to the role than him, but he’s a fantastic leader and he helped shape me and he showed what it means to be the captain.”

In addition to his on-ice success, Chadwick has been a star off the ice as well. He was named both the WHL and Canadian Hockey League Scholastic Player of the Year after last season.

The Hurricanes will announce their full leadership group on a later date. They will open their pre-season schedule on Tuesday, September 3 at the Visit Lethbridge.com Arena at 7:00 p.m. against the Medicine Hat Tigers.
