Lethbridge School Division sees increase in enrolment in 2024

Schools in Lethbridge are seeing an increase in enrolment.

Superintendent of the Lethbridge School Division, Mike Nightingale, says they are welcoming back 12,000 students this year, and there is an increase of around two-to-three per cent in enrolment in the entire school division compared to 2023.

This will be Nightingale’s second year as Superintendent of the Lethbridge School Division, and he expressed his excitement about this school year starting.

He states, “As a growing school division, Lethbridge School Division, we are really excited to serve all these kids and families and so that’s the biggest thing, there’s lots going on in education right now but it’s always exciting to start a new school year.”

Nightingale also touched on the new draft social studies curriculum that is being piloted to kindergarteners as well as kids in Grades 2 and 3.

He says, “We’re looking forward to piloting it this year. There are some things that we believe probably need to be improved. And I think it’s really important that our teachers who are in the classroom have an opportunity to really provide that feedback because I think if that feedback is gathered and listened to, I think they’re going to really provide us with an opportunity to improve that curriculum and get it to where we think it should be.”
