Motorcycle caught going 140 km/hr on busy Lethbridge road

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) has arrested a man for travelling more than double the speed limit.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2024, they say a green motorcycle was seen weaving in and out of traffic along Mayor Magrath Drive South.

The bike was reportedly caught travelling at speeds of up to 140 kilometres per hour in heavy traffic. The speed limit on Mayor Magrath Drive South is either 50 or 60 kilometres per hour, depending on the section of the road.

Brendan Campbell, 25, of Brooks, is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

He was released on bail under the condition that he not drive a vehicle without a valid driver’s license, valid registration and valid proof of insurance.

Campbell is also faced with more than $1,200 worth of tickets, including operating a motor vehicle with unauthorized lamps, exhaust muffler producing excessive noise, cycle not equipped with reflector properly affixed to rear on highway, licence plate lamp not turn on and stay lit when heads lamps lit, motor vehicle without licence plate securely attached or legible or clearly visible, operating a motor vehicle of unauthorized class, and failing to produce registration.

The motorcycle has been removed from operation in accordance with measures under the Traffic Safety Act.

Campbell is scheduled to appear in court on September 23, 2024.
